Tadcaster Albion manager Paul Marshall remains confident that his side’s money-spinning FA Cup third qualifying round game with Boston United will go ahead – despite their pitch currently being six feet under water, writes Alex Finnis.

Marshall has described the game, due to take place a week on Saturday, as “the biggest in the club’s history”, and is hoping volunteers will help to get the pitch into a fit state for it to go ahead.

“If we couldn’t get it on then we’d have to play it at Boston’s ground and we’d lose out on all the revenue,” he said.

“It’s going to be a massive clear-up operation but we’ll get the game on,” said the Albion boss. “We’re going to need a lot of volunteers to come down and help out.”

Marshall is expecting 300 to 400 Boston fans to make the trip to Tadcaster and is anticipating the lure of the FA Cup will bring in a crowd of up to 1,000 for the game against the former Football League side.

“We’re hoping people from all around York make the trip to come and watch us in our biggest-ever game,” he said.

Boston are currently ninth in Blue Square Bet North, but Tacaster will go into the game believing they can win after crushing another higher-ranked team, Skelmersdale United, 4-1 in the last round, with 18-year-old Callum Ward bagging a hat-trick.
