YORK City have won permission to take Stevenage Borough pair Darryn Stamp and Jason Goodliffe on loan.

The Minstermen have agreed a three-month deal with striker Stamp that will keep him at KitKat Crescent until Sunday, January 7.

Stevenage club captain and centre-back Goodliffe has signed for two months and will be due back at Broadhall Way on Friday, December 15.

Both players, who trained with City yesterday, have also been given clearance to play in next Saturday's FA Cup fourth round qualifying tie at Newcastle Benfield (Bay Plastics).

City received permission from the FA and Conference to take the pair on loan late yesterday afternoon despite the transfer window being closed and both are eligible to make their debuts at Tamworth this afternoon.

Should Billy McEwan play both then he will be hoping for more discipline than the pair displayed the last time they played in front of City fans when they were sent off in a 1-1 draw at Stevenage during the penultimate game of last season.

It was a game that cost Stevenage a play-off place although Goodliffe did score the home side's goal.

Since then, both players have fallen out of favour under new manager Mark Stimpson.

Stamp, 28, has only made three substitute outings while 32-year-old Goodliffe has not featured for a month after starting seven matches.

Beverley-born Stamp started his career at Scunthorpe where he made his debut at the age of 18 and managed seven goals in 24 starts.

He went on loan to Halifax and Scarborough while an Iron player and signed for the Seadogs permanently in 2001, where he scored 12 in 28 starts and secured a £45,000 switch to Northampton.

As a Cobbler, Stamp netted five in 13 starts before moving to Chester City for a nominal fee where he helped the Saunders Honda Stadium club regain their Football League status in 2003-04.

Chester clinched the Conference title with 19-goal Stamp forging a lethal partnership with Daryl Clare, who netted 30 times.

He then went on loan to Kidderminster the following season and joined Stevenage in January 2005, where he has been on target 21 times in 50 starts.

Stamp and Goodliffe both played for Stevenage in the 2005-05 1-0 Conference play-off final defeat to Carlisle United and the latter has been at the Hertfordshire club since 2001, playing 142 matches and scoring 15 goals.

Previously, the strapping defender spent nine years at Hayes.

About the double signings, City boss McEwan said, "Jason McGill and I have been working very hard to get this emergency loan deal sorted and are very pleased to welcome Darryn Stamp and Jason Goodliffe to the club. We would also like to thank Stevenage Borough and their chairman Phil Wallace for their help and co-operation."
