Flying start for Clifton Cycling Club's Toby Everett
10:27am Saturday 26th May 2012 in Sport
Clifton Cycling Club rider Toby Everett made a flying start to the club’s new North Yorkshire Evening Road Race series.
The 18-year-old, who has risen through the club’s Go-Ride youth programme to senior racing, scored his first win at the head of around 40 riders in the Bishop Wood area near Selby.
The series is an initiative involving three local clubs – Clifton, York Cycleworks and Malton Wheelers – aimed at getting racing back onto the roads of North Yorkshire after a gap of several years.
A key factor has been bringing in professional traffic management expertise to satisfy police and highways safety requirements.
A further five races are planned on a variety of quiet local circuits, intended to be a way into road racing for keen club cyclists.
Race organiser Cam Brooks said: “This was the first event in the new North Yorkshire Evening Road Race League, so it was great to get it off to a good start.
“Clifton CC riders put in strong performances on the night, with Toby Everett putting the icing on the cake in the bunch sprint.
“Everyone’s already looking forward to the next event in the series on May 31, hosted by York Cycleworks. Many thanks to all from Clifton CC and Malton Wheelers who helped out behind the scenes and on the night to make it such a success.”
