WORLD number 150 Neil Cordell swept to victory in the final of the York and District Squash League’s York Open.
The Wigginton-based player beat defending champion Chris Rusling in an excellent final at Clifton Park.
Cordell, who last lifted the trophy in 2009, showed all his strength and skill to overcome a battling Rusling 3-0 (9-5, 9-1, 9-5).
In the Plate final, Marc Thomas beat Dan Adams 3-1 (9-0, 9-6, 7-9, 9-5).
Meanwhile, Cordell exited the British Championships in Manchester after a 3-0 first round defeat against Kent’s Adrian Grant.
• The final of the York & District Ladies Squash League Open Championship will be played at Dunnington tonight.
