AFTER his joint 33rd-place in the Barclays Singapore Open, York-born Simon Dyson remains in a sound position in the race for a place in the European Ryder Cup team for next year, writes Tony Kelly.

Dyson is in eighth position with 473,254 points in the European points list, and ninth with 57.09 points on the world points list.

The Malton & Norton Golf Club star’s world ranking also went up by one place to 31 after his comeback in the Singapore event which was reduced from four to three rounds after being marred by heavy thunderstorms.

Qualification for the European Ryder Cup places for next September’s match against America in Chicago goes to the the top five players on the European points list on August 26 next year and the top five, not already qualified, on the world points list. Captain Jose Maria Olazabal then adds two wild cards.
