THERE was no shortage of shocks in the first round of the York Minster Engineering Football League Reserve Cup.

Copmanthorpe, second in reserve ‘A’, lost 5-3 at home to F1 Racing, who are second bottom in reserve ‘D’, while Easingwold were the second reserve ‘A’ side to suffer an embarrassing home defeat at the hands of a reserve ‘D’ outfit, going down 3-2 to Civil Service.

The visitors won it with goals from Ross Dixon, Craig Coates and Sam Wood. Richard Henley and Simon Wilson replied for the hosts.

Civil Service will now have a home tie against St Clement’s, who hammered Stamford Bridge 8-0.

Kev Gaynor and Lee Whitely scored two each for Saints.

Reserve ‘D’ side Tadcaster Magnets had no difficulty in toppling reserve ‘A’ Haxby United 5-2. Mike Taylor and Gary Rylands netted late on for Haxby after Phil Smith’s hat-trick was backed by goals from Darren Wilson and Billy Thompson.

Next up for Taddy are another reserve ‘A’ side in the shape of York St John, who twice trailed at Heslington before winning 7-2. Josh Hind scored a hat-trick.

Amotherby beat Nestlé 8-2 with goals from Andy Philips (2), Richard Cass, Adam Gray, Matt Shipley, Ryan Boyd, Christian Wilkinson and Kieran Wall.

Second half goals from Joe Karnski (2) and Steve Dunne eased Fulford to a 3-0 win at Bishop Wilton.

Despite Ricky Hutton giving Hemingbrough the lead at Bishopthorpe, the hosts ran-out 4-1 winners.

Cup favourites Dunnington beat White Horse 4-0 with goals from Grant Tolworthy, Ross Wilkinson (2) and Tom Wheatlands.

Their reward is a trip to Riccall, who beat Aviva 3-2. Andy Northern, Jim Darlison and Kev Kozicki netted to eclipse an own goal and Ashley Inman’s strike.

York RI beat Hamilton Panthers 6-4 with goals from Danny Wood (2), Steve Gagen, Josh Nicol, Josh Coulson and Cameron Sanderson.

Old Malton beat Pocklington 3-0 with goals from Drew Scott, Josh Beech and Dean Liddell to set up a home clash with Huntington.
