York City moved to within six points of the Blue Square Bet Premier's top-five with a 2-1 home win over Gateshead.
Midfielder Jonathan Smith gave the Minstermen the lead after only eight minutes, but in-form Gateshead battled back to level on 50 minutes through James Curtis.
Smith was then brought down in the box by Kris Gate in the 62nd minute and Leon Constantine netted from the penalty spot.
Gate was yellow-carded for his trip on Smith and a second foul on the City midfielder saw him red-carded five minutes later.
Seventh-placed City are now six points behind fifth-placed Kidderminster with two games in hand.
