YORK City manager Gary Mills hailed the “superb” strike from Jamie Reed which gave his side a precious 1-0 victory over Fleetwood Town at Bootham Crescent.

Reed’s volley, struck into the top corner three minutes into the second half last night, drew the Minstermen closer to the Blue Square Bet Premier play-off race and left Mills repeating that his team’s destiny is in their own hands.

Mills brought on Reed, pictured left, as a half-time substitute and said of the striker’s immediate impact: “It worked for us and it is nice when it happens like that.

“We changed to 4-4-2 with 15 minutes to go in the first half. We made a couple of changes at half-time. It worked and we stuck one in the top corner. It was superb.”

On Reed, Mills added: “He’s got a lot to learn.

“He has come into a level of football where he is going to show what a good player he is. He is a goalscorer and he will stick them in with his backside or get the volleys.

“He is a good player and we have got a lot of good players who are doing well for us.”

Mills replaced Daniel Parslow at right-back with Liam Darville and said dropping the Welshman was one of the hardest things he’d had to do in management.

“I had to make a decision with Daniel Parslow who has been outstanding for the football club and I have had to get him in and drop him.

“I have been in management for 15 years and it is the hardest thing I have had to do. He has been outstanding for me.”
