FORMER York City ace Nicky Wroe was an instant hit on his home debut for npower League Two promotion chasers Shrewsbury Town.
The midfielder, who was signed from Torquay United for £10,000 during the January transfer window, bagged the only goal of the game against visiting Stevenage to earn the praise of Shrews’ boss Graham Turner.
Coupled with defeats for leaders Chesterfield and fellow promotion rivals Wycombe, Wroe’s 38th-minute strike enabled Shrewsbury to go into second place.
Said Turner: “I think he is a good £10,000 which is what he cost us from Torquay.
“He can pass the ball well and he has always had an eye for a goal.
“It was probably the perfect debut for him.”
Sheffield-born Wroe featured in 27 games between 2007 and 2008 for the Minstermen, scoring six goals, before moving to Torquay just over two years ago.
