David McDermott back at York City
11:42am Tuesday 19th October 2010 in Sport
By Dave Flett, Sports reporter
Winger David McDermott has been welcomed back to Bootham Crescent by new York City boss Gary Mills
RELEASED winger David McDermott has been given a second chance by York City’s new manager Gary Mills.
Former caretaker chief Andy Porter showed McDermott the door at Bootham Crescent last month, but the one-time Kidderminster winger has been handed another short-term contract with the Minstermen.
Mills is a long-time admirer of McDermott, having monitored him at close quarters while in charge of Kidderminster’s neighbours Tamworth.
The 22-year-old midfielder signed for City after impressing during a pre-season trial but only managed four substitute appearances before being told he had no future at the club.
His last outing came in the 5-0 mauling at Mansfield, which proved to be Martin Foyle’s last game in charge, but Mills is pleased to welcome him back into the fray.
The City boss said: “I’ve taken David McDermott back for another month.
“I know him from the Midlands and have tried to sign him a couple of times in the past, so I’m aware of his qualities.
“It just seemed daft to have somebody like that unavailable and not playing, so I had a chat with him and he’s back training with us.
“He’s never worked for me before so it’s a fresh start for him and I think the way I like my teams to play will suit him down to the ground as well.
“I said at the weekend that we need a couple of leaders and I think he’s a talker who can organise things on the field.”
Mills has also decided to extend Danny Racchi’s spell at the club with the 22-year-old midfielder having spent the last month on loan from Blue Square Bet Premier rivals Wrexham, starting five games during that time.
“I thought he did well on Saturday,” Mills added. “He was lively for us in the first half, but did not have the ball enough in the second half for him to influence everything.
“In training and during the game, though, I have been impressed with his enthusiasm and qualities.”

Lets hope Purcell adds to the competition once he is fit again too!

Oh and check out Newports, find anything that isn't an advert and then tell me which website is more appealing on the eye, let alone difficult for the elderly to navigate! Website building is a subject I teach and ycfc.net certainly isn't the worst!
Oh and pleased to see McD back as he never got a proper look at, does seem like a nob though.

i couldn't believe it when Porter said McDermott hadn't proved himself at City and then released him, when he was never given a chance.
When you think of the rubbish we have signed this season, this was logic straight out of Alice in Wonderland.
Re trimming of the squad, I would get rid of Fyfield, Constantine, Beesley, Dowson, Smith and Racchi. I have been none too impressed with either Young or Courtney, but perhaps they are not match fit.
So far Gary Mills is making all the right noises.

And since the likes of Smith, Courtney, Constantine are all on full-time contracts to the end of the season there's no way they'll just be shipping off either.

So according to your statement on David McDermott, is, you are allowed freedom of speech, but DM does not. It looks like a touch of "Animal Farm" to me.

It's funny how players out of the team suddenly become world beaters. We should concentrate on supporting and building the confidence of those on the park. It's funny how the team played better when the sniping subsided last season. If the effort and commitment to the cause is there, it should be mirrored by us during the 90 minutes.

Also, on the subject of players leaving, i'll drive Fyfield to the station, he's absolutely dreadful. We need Carruthers back asap. Lets hope this week they are working on confidence, as they have lacked any since Kenilworth Road back in April.

Goodness, Imp, how much did we pay for Fyfield?
.
I think people need to remember that he's only a young lad, has just stepped up to full-time football, and has been thrown into a struggling managerless side, out of position. Hard to really give a good account of yourself in those circumstances.
