DEPARTED caretaker boss Andy Porter says he will look back on his time at York City with “pride”.

Having left the club on Wednesday after four games in temporary charge and nearly two years as assistant to Martin Foyle, Porter said he felt the duo had achieved a great deal in their short stay at Bootham Crescent.

With two Wembley finals and a trip to Stoke City in the third round of the FA Cup to look back on, Porter said the pair had much to look back on with fondness.

“There is a bit of pride with what we have done,” he said when asked about the highlights of his time with the Minstermen. “We had 21 months together me and Martin and they were good times.

“We were unlucky at Wembley, we didn’t do ourselves justice there and we had good cup runs and played at Stoke. It is something to look back on, along with the friendship with the players.

“They have been great for us. Five or six were really solid and behind us and what we achieved last year with them was good.”

On the circumstances surrounding his departure, Porter said: “Decisions have to be made. Not just for the club but for myself. It was no good dragging it on. The club wants stability.

“I wanted an answer quickly. I had four games and if I had got a result (against Kettering) things could have been different. I wanted the manager’s job and it is hard then to go back to assistant.

“They (the board) were very good. They did everything properly and were very helpful. They let me bring in a player before the Tuesday game to try to get a result but it wasn’t to be.

“I am going to have a week off, have a rest and be with the family. Then I will look around. There are a few jobs going and this is the time of year when it does happen.

“It is a manager’s job I am after. I have had a few years as assistant and I think I am ready.”

But Porter did not rule out the prospect of working with Foyle again in the future, adding the former City boss was now on the lookout for a new post.

“I have spoken to him and he was fine. He’s getting a few jobs done around the house,” he added. “He is sending his CV off everywhere.

“He has had his week’s break. He is a good friend, we work well together and we trust each other.

“We are very similar in what we are after but we are also different in other ways.”

And when asked if he would prefer his next post to be closer to home, with both Porter and Foyle having spent substantial parts of the week away from their families while at Bootham Crescent, he said: ““We never grumbled about being away from home. It was a big thing but they (the club) looked after us with a flat. They tried to make us feel at home as much as they could. They could not have done any more.”

Meanwhile, youth team boss Steve Torpey will take the helm for tomorrow’s Blue Square Bet Premier trip to Newport County if a permanent replacement for Foyle is not unveiled today.

You can't argue with the record Foyle and Porter got results, not always pretty but got results, think of where the club was before they joined us, good luck to them both, now over to the board, why can't we survive on crowds of 2300 to 2500, which is what we are told is break even, what has gone so wrong that the money from 2 trips to wembley and the Brodie sale, hasn't been put back into the playing side ?

Penney would be a class Manager but would also command a high wage.

His commiments as a Football Agent gives him the contacts but I am not convinced he would drop down to the conference.

Lots of funny things going on at the club a manager like penney likes a lot of control.

Two of the very successful Community team have been made redundant over the summer as well as all the other departing staff make me wonder if we could really afford a high profile (though lower level) manager like penney.

Come on announce it - New manager syndrome would of been great this weekend!!

It's like Emmerdale on here -all sexing it up or slagging it off. It shouldn't be like this and the club have really been damaged by the lack of clarity that leads to gossip. The Press have written articles that prove that they are not "in the loop". No news is good news - I wonder. Whatever is going on the bottom line is that the PR of this club (as a community club) rates alongside Wile E Coyotes attempts to catch Roadrunner - laughable and even the ACME "spin weapon" of r Sophie is doomed to failure. For those posters who are so young that this makes no sense ask an older person to help you understand.

Relieved to hear it, 3.10, I struggled with my Latin but scraped the 'O'-level - "Grumio est cocchus" - It would have been fitting for Constantine to have become a City hero - I envisaged a statue of a Constantine either side of the West Front - but he's out of his depth.
