Dunnington are division one champions in the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League for the first time in their history.

The title was clinched with a win against York 2 while defending champions York went down to Poppleton.

Matthew Stephenson and Karen Mitchell finished with a 12-0 success to clinch the points for Dunnington.

They were well backed up by the unbeaten Dave Walton and Katie Milne, with Charlotte Mitchell stepping in at the last minute to partner Trevor Loten.

Paul Cook and Belinda Turnbull sealed the victory for Poppleton with an 11-1 final round win against York.

Castlegarth hold the key to the runners-up spot as both York and Poppleton still have to play them.

Castlegarth’s Jamie Perkins and Sarah Woon won 33 games against York 3 to settle the second relegation spot.

The second promotion spot is still wide open in division two after runaway leaders Fulford beat Rowntree Park and Copmanthorpe closed in on Rufforth with a win at Wheldrake.

Wigginton are mounting a late season winning run, taking the points at Stillington despite the best efforts of unbeaten David Phillips and Roz Madgwick.

Dunnington need only one more point from their three remaining fixtures to lift the silverware in division three after a win against Sherburn.

Fulford are second after beating Appleton Roebuck and Wilberfoss, but will have to wait for the teams around them to play their outstanding fixtures.

Division four is wide open going into the last week, with only Civil Service knowing their fate after going down to Stillington, who were led by the high-scoring pairing of Julian Terry and Christine Cookman.

Wigginton are the latest team to go into the automatic promotion places, with Martin Thornton and Sarah Crabtree ensuring a win against Riccall and then ousting York.

David Linsley and Wendy Shepherd kept York in the hunt with a win at Heworth.

Tonight’s match between David Lloyd and Cliffe will decide who lifts the trophy after David Lloyd beat their second string twice in quick succession and Cliffe earned the points against Dunnington.

Four teams are battling for the division six honours after leaders Rowntree Park went down to Poppleton.

Howard and Ali Thompson kept Tollerton in the hunt with a win against relegation-threatened Cawood, while Nick Thompson and Toni Heffernan starred at Wheldrake.

Wigginton need one more point to take the division seven title after Ken Storey and Kate Jackson won 33 games against relegated Escrick. They also beat Wistow in their push for championship honours.

High-scoring Richard Corrigan and Andrene Watson kept Bishopthorpe on track for the division eight title.

And champions-in-waiting Bishopthorpe hold the key to promotion and relegation as they have the two clubs fighting for survival yet to play.

Rufforth are still the favourites for promotion from division ten, while Dunnington are outsiders after a win against Wistow.

Johnny Kilgallon and Jenny Hunt impressed as division 11 champions Stamford Bridge beat Rufforth.

Shaun Dixon and partner Ang Robinson then did the damage for Bridge to oust hosts Cliffe.

Rufforth’s Phil and Ellie Telfer were unbeaten as Bishopthorpe missed out on the chance to secure the second promotion spot, despite the best efforts of David and Linda Moore.

But showing solid spirit, Bishopthorpe then bounced back with a win at promotion rivals Poppleton.
