Richard Fahey may have runners at Thirsk tomorrow, but the Malton trainer will be at Goodwood, where he saddles no fewer than five horses in the £100,000 Bluesq.com Stewards’ Cup.

Pick of the quintet could well be Johannes, a York winner in May and a horse who last year won the consolation race for this showpiece event at this same meeting over the same course and distance.

Although Johannes has twice been beaten since his Knavesmire victory, he ran creditable races on both occasions. And this prestigious six-furlong dash has been his aim all season.

With smart apprentice Martin Lane, who won the John Smith’s Cup at York earlier this month, in the saddle, Johannes is sportingly napped in a wide-open 28-runner cavalry charge, in which Fahey also saddles Knot In Wood, recent Ascot winner Castles In The Air, Kaldoun Kingdom and recent all-weather winner Prime Exhibit.

Whatever his fate in the featured sprint, Fahey also has good prospects in the Play Poker At gcasino.com Nursery Handicap.

He saddles both Majestic Myles and Bahamian Sunset and preference is for the former, winner of his last two races, and the mount of Barry McHugh.

The £200,000 Blue Square Nassau Stakes is the richest race on the final day of Goodwood's five-day festival and Midday is fancied to scoop the pool, just as she did in this Group 1 event 12 months ago.

Henry Cecil’s top-notch filly, a winner at last year’s Breeders’ Cup meeting in America, was unable to cope with Sariska in the Middleton Stakes at York in May, but she has been primed since for a late-summer campaign, including another crack at this race.

Mark Johnston’s Wadnaan, a wide-margin winner at Beverley earlier in the week, turns out again quickly in the Meccabingo.com Handicap and is a fascinating runner, while Field Of Dream, fifth to Johnston’s Rainfall in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot, can give Kieren Fallon another Goodwood winner in the Bluesq.com Stewards’ Stakes.

At Thirsk, the £10,700 Ekosgen Handicap takes pride of place as the card’s richest race.

This one-mile event looks within the grasp of Reel Buddy Star, trained at Middleham by George Moore.

The five-year-old has matured into the finished article this season and has proved a model of consistency.

Ahmedy should go well for Norton trainer John Quinn in the Buck Inn Maunby Handicap.

Limited to four runs this season, Ahmedy finished fourth to Tropical Bachelor at York on his latest start seven weeks ago.

Quinn’s horses are in much better form now than then and the five-year-old is fancied to go well in this two-miler.

Also worthy of attention at Thirsk are the promising pair of Normandy Maid (1.45) and Hamloola (2.50).
