RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘A’ stayed in the top four of York Badminton League men’s division one with hard-fought 8-1 home win over Selby/Drax ‘A’.

Dave Preece and Loz Smith set the standard for RI with a return of 137-120, which reflected the closeness of the rubbers.

York RI Monday/Wednesday ‘A’ continued their unbeaten run in men’s one with a 9-0 home win over Tadcaster. Chris Hunt and Richard Pauw were untroubled in taking their allocation in straight games for a points return of 126-40.

Clifton ‘C’ made it six wins from eight matches with an 8-1 home win over a spirited Selby/Drax ‘B’.

The new pairing of Bill Ellis and Dave Woods proved fruitful as they topped the home averages with three rubbers for 141-105.

University Students ‘C’ made it eight wins in a row in men’s three with a 5-4 win at Fulfordgate and a 9-0 home victory over Selby Jubilee ‘B’.

Andrew Johnson and Matt Hobman took three Fulfordgate wins for a 126-88 scoreline, but Alex Doyle and Joe Rahman sealed the campus win in the last rubber with a win against John Maule and Mark Winfield.

The 9-0 win over a depleted Selby Jubilee saw Rory Muse and Ollie Metcalfe top score for the Heslington team.

The University Staff had mixed fortunes against the top clubs in men’s three. They suffered a 5-4 defeat by top club York RI ‘B’ and then won 5-4 over second-placed RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘C’.

Matt Evans and Ben Wheller sealed the York RI ‘B’ win with a last rubber success against John Campbell and Fan Yang.

The staff club’s win over the Tuesday/Thursday ‘C’ side was due to the excellent form of Krian Sak and Win Techakehaki, who claimed three straight wins.

The up and down season endured by University Students ‘A’ in mixed one continued with a 6-3 home win over York RI ‘B’.

James Hor and Liz McFadzean were in tremendous form for the campus club and took all three rubbers in straight games for a return of 126-80 to confirm their consistency as a pair.

Clifton ‘A’ suffered a set-back in their quest for the mixed one title after they conceded three rubbers to a lively Shepherds team at the York College sports hall.

Daniel Woolfson and Karen Broster claimed three Clifton wins for a 140-89 scoreline. That haul included an 11 and 12 victory over James Pearson and Lisa McClaren, who played well to take two Shepherd wins.

RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘A’ kept their top place in mixed two, despite losing out 5-4 at home to Riverside ‘A’ and 6-3 at St John.

Dave Preece and Susie Maddison claimed three Institute wins against Riverside for a total return of 128-96.

Craig Middleton and Nikki Hainsworth were the top performers for St John against RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘A’.

They returned a match-winning maximum score for a total of 145-96.

Huntington ‘A’ have four wins from six outings in mixed three after a 7-2 home win over Varsity.

John Deighton and Theresa Roberts-Hardy kept up their good understanding for The Mount School-based club with another three-rubber haul and a scoreline of 152-116.

John and Jane Collie played well for the visitors and they were rewarded with a 13 and 13 win over Mike Miller and Bev Tebbutt.

Tadcaster 86 ‘B’ managed a 5-4 home win over Knavesmire in mixed four.

Joy Wilson and Dave Brogden claimed three Knavesmire wins for 145-105, but Sam Mottershead and Yvonne Malthouse sealed the Tadcaster win with a 13 and 12 victory over Carol Bell and Mike Lewis.

Selby Jubilee ‘B’ opened their mixed five account with a 5-4 home win over Middlethorpe.

Martyn Waller and Hazel Quarrie snared three Middlethorpe wins for a 159-126 return. Pete Murphy and Ann Slinger sealed the 5-4 win with a 15 and 18 result over Brenda Pooleman and Ian Thompson.
