LEEDS United are “hopeful” that 24-goal striker Jermaine Beckford will return to face Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road tomorrow.

Beckford was withdrawn at half-time during last weekend’s 2-2 League One draw at Hartlepool with a hamstring injury.

He then missed Tuesday night’s 3-2 Johnstone Paints Trophy second leg, semi-final victory at Carlisle, which saw the Elland Road outfit eventually eliminated on penalties.

But manager Simon Grayson believes Beckford has a chance of featuring in East London.

He said: “We’re hopeful we’ll have Jermaine back but we’ll see. He’s just a bit sore but another day or so and he should be fine.

“If not, we won’t be risking him and bringing him back early.”

Former Scotland international striker Paul Dickov is still training with Leeds following his release by Leicester but has not yet earned a contract.

Grayson’s men will be hoping to improve on an away record that has seen them pick up just one point from a possible nine during their last three league fixtures on the road.

Mid-table Orient have lost just one game in eight.

Leeds have also confirmed they will be lodging a complaint to the FA after several players were accosted by Carlisle fans during a pitch invasion at the end of Tuesday night’s northern zone final.

The club have expressed their disappointment to Carlisle and the Cumbrian police as well.

Said Leeds chief executive officer Shaun Harvey: “Our players found themselves in danger which isn’t what you want to see.”
