PACESETTERS Haxby+United%22">Haxby United beat neighbours Wigginton+Grasshoppers%22">Wigginton Grasshoppers 3-1 to stay top of the York Minster Engineering Football League premier division.

United have now won all five of their league games this season, scoring 23 goals and conceding only four.

Dunnington beat York St John University 2-1 at home to stay level on points with Haxby, but they have already played two more games than their rivals.

Haxby won without really getting into top gear, carving out numerous chances in the first half hour.

Wigginton, who created a few chances of their own, managed to keep Haxby at bay until the stroke of half-time.

However, a cross found Terry Taylor unmarked and he fired home from close range.

Haxby stepped up a gear after the break, but were still made to work hard for their goals.

On 55 minutes in-form striker Darren Brandon fired his ninth goal in five games to make it 2-0.

Within five minutes, a mistake by the Wigginton ’keeper left Gary Newton free to make it 3-0 from 20 yards.

Haxby then sat on their lead and were punished on 70 minutes when Lee Fisher slotted home after Eddie Clapham’s shot had been parried by goalkeeper Tom Hewer.

Old Malton St Mary’s edged out visitors Riccall United 4-3 as both sides ended the game with ten men.

Andy Hodgson gave Saints the lead on five minutes and, seven minutes later, Riccall’s ’keeper was sent off for a handball outside the area. Rob Pinder scored from the free-kick.

The ten men hit back to level by half-time and then took the lead before Old Malton striker Dave Bell was dismissed for foul and abusive language.

Captain Ryan Cooper equalised for the hosts on 75 minutes and Callum Scott bagged the winner with seven minutes to go. Cooper missed a stoppage time penalty.

Copmanthorpe beat hosts Dringhouses 3-1 with goals from Terry Hibbert, Andrew Manns and ex-’Houses player Danny Leach.

Wilberfoss picked up their first win of the campaign, beating Hamilton Panthers 3-0.

In division one, Stamford Bridge turned in an improved performance at home to Tockwith in their second game of the campaign, but went down to a first half goal.

Riccall beat Stamford Bridge 4-3 on penalties to reach round three of the Reserve Cup.

The sides were locked at 2-2 after extra time, but the visitors edged through in the shoot-out.

Scott Fieldhouse had missed a third-minute penalty for the home side and Riccall took advantage of their let off to take the lead.

Darryl Carter converted Bridge’s second penalty midway through the second half and he then swept in a 25-yard free-kick. Riccall equalised with five minutes to go.

Old Malton St Mary’s were 5-3 winners at Heworth.
