MALTON & Norton’s premier division place is hanging by a thread in the Leeper Hare York & District Football League.

Victory for Selby side Tate & Lyle against Old Malton St Mary’s tonight (6.30pm) would mean relegation for the Malton & Norton outfit, who have not won in ten games.

In their last game, a goal by Dunnington’s Robert Chipps condemned them to a 1-0 defeat and handed Tate & Lyle a lifeline.

Copmanthorpe led 2-0 at home to champions Hamilton Panthers before going down 4-3 – but results elsewhere ensured they have avoided the drop.

Huntington’s Wayne Scaife scored for the sixth game on the trot as his side beat Haxby 3-2.

Easingwold’s 3-2 win at Norwich Union ensures their division one status for another season.

Two goals from Nick Rank helped Stamford Bridge earn another vital point following a 2-2 draw at Ouseburn.

Midway through the second half at Hemingbrough it looked as though the home side had blown the chance of their first division two championship.

They needed at least a point from their home game with St Clement’s, but trailed 3-1, while their nearest rivals Post Office were leading 4-1 at Heworth. Steve Harrison then reduced the arrears 20 minutes from time and Dave Young equalised for the hosts with less than two minutes remaining.

Post Office, whose goals were shared between Dave Adams and Amos Laverack, were promoted as runners-up.

Chris Thompson scored four of Osbaldwick’s goals in a 7-6 win at Rawcliffe, with Anthony Evans doing likewise for the hosts.
