YORK City are “buzzing” at the prospect of securing a trip to Wembley.

Sophie Hicks, the Minstermen’s communications and community director, said there was “enormous excitement around the club” ahead of this afternoon’s FA Trophy semi-final second leg against AFC Telford.

With City 2-0 up from the first-leg, a trip to London and the famous arch is tantalisingly within reach and Hicks said the club was hoping today’s KitKat Crescent crowd would surpass the 3,600 who saw the Minstermen fall narrowly short against Torquay 12 months ago.

Hicks said: “There is enormous excitement around the club about the game.

“The place is literally buzzing and we are all really up for it from the players and management to the staff in the ticket office.

“We have sold over 500 tickets so far and we would hope to surpass the 3,600 attendance we had at last season’s semi-final home leg.

“We really want to encourage as many people as possible to come down to the ground and cheer the team on to Wembley.

“This is a massive game, not only for the club and our supporters, but for the city of York and North Yorkshire.”
