YORK City manager Martin Foyle has asked a “singing and dancing” home crowd to roar his players on to Wembley.

The KitKat Crescent club are hoping to attract their biggest attendance of the season for tomorrow’s FA Trophy semi-final, second leg against Telford after taking a 2-0 advantage from the Buck’s Head stadium last weekend.

City’s highest gate of the campaign saw 2,703 watch a 3-1 defeat to Blue Square Premier leaders Burton Albion on New Year’s Day, but Foyle is hoping to beat that. And, emphasising the importance of vocal support, the City chief said: “It obviously helped that we got an early goal but I thought our fans, with their flares and singing, were great throughout the afternoon and tomorrow their support will be absolutely paramount.

“There might be a nervy opening 20 minutes – especially if we go a goal down – but we’ve all got to be ready if that happens. I’m sure the fans will stay with us because they know what the prize is as well as we do.

“We won’t do it on our own, but we will if we work together and it would be great to see all the supporters singing and dancing again.”

Foyle added that the two-goal cushion would make no difference to the manner in which his side approach the game, emphasising that the target will be to extend their lead. He said: “We got a fantastic result at Telford and would have settled for 0-0 before we kicked off. But we are two up and will go looking for a third because we know they will come at us and feel we will get chances at the other end.”

Foyle also stressed that he would not rule out playing with three centre-backs again having started with Daniel Parslow, David McGurk and Shaun Pejic during Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw at Forest Green Rovers.

He said: “It’s something we will consider again. We worked on it, but Forest Green simply passed the ball around better than we did.

“Things might have needed tweaking a bit, but no system will work if you can’t retain possession of the ball. There wasn’t a formation problem.”

Foyle also added that he is actively pursuing possible loan transfer targets ahead of Thursday’s deadline.
