YORK City will welcome back Australian striker Daniel McBreen for tomorrow’s FA Trophy semi-final, second leg home clash with Telford.

McBreen is the Minstermen’s leading marksman in the Trophy with five goals even though he last netted in the league five months ago during the 2-0 victory at Woking on October 11.

The 31-year-old striker, who required knee surgery last summer, missed Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw at Forest Green Rovers with manager Martin Foyle concerned about his ability to play three games in a week. But, with Simon Brown cup-tied, McBreen and fellow strikers Richard Brodie, Onome Sodje and Adam Boyes will be fighting for forward places against Telford.

Foyle said: “Daniel McBreen sometimes struggles with two games in quick succession, especially if there’s travelling involved, but he will be fine for tomorrow.”

The City boss has also challenged all his strikers to press their claims for selection between now and the end of the season.

Sodje netted for the first time this year with his late equaliser at Forest Green, while teenager Adam Boyes has only scored once in 27 senior outings.

On-loan forward Brown is yet to net in seven appearances while 16-goal leading marksman Richard Brodie has only hit the target in one of his last eight matches.

Foyle said: “After tomorrow, though, nobody will be cup-tied so, whoever gets the shirt, it’s theirs to keep or lose.”
