YORK City’s chances of boosting their lowly league position have been handed a massive lift with Martin Foyle’s men now due to face crisis club Weymouth twice in six days.

The cash-strapped Terras, who fielded a youth team in last Saturday’s 9-0 home defeat to Rushden, will arrive at KitKat Crescent this afternoon still in turmoil.

That situation is also unlikely to be resolved before Thursday night when the Minstermen will now travel to the south coast for the return match, which has been brought forward from April 7.

The change means the Wessex Stadium clash has now been scheduled for four different dates in total.

Originally planned for Saturday, January 3, the match was put back to January 6 after the game was selected for live coverage on Setanta.

The game was called off, however, due to adverse weather conditions and rearranged for April.

It is a move that is likely to upset a section of City’s travelling support, who the club had previously agreed to compensate when the match was first moved for the Irish broadcasters.

In a club statement, City pointed out the match will help Weymouth’s cash-flow problems, adding the Terras would not have another home game “until” March 10, even though that date is just five days after they will be hosting the Minstermen.

Explaining the decision, the statement read: “The fixture has been moved in a bid to help the club rearrange its three outstanding fixtures with Oxford, Kettering and Forest Green and will free up the original date of Tuesday, April 7 and hopefully allow one of these matches to be rescheduled for that date.

“The change has been sanctioned by City manager Martin Foyle who was keen to avoid a fixture backlog at the end of the season and the possibility that City might be forced to play three or even four games a week over several weeks.

“Additionally, the club were keen to be as helpful as possible to Weymouth in their current plight and as they were not scheduled to play another home game until March 10 this will provide a welcome boost to their cashflow.”

Tickets for the FA Trophy semi final, second leg against Telford on Saturday, March 21 will go on sale on Monday, March 9 at 10am.

Only tickets for the Main Stand, Family Stand and Enclosure will be on advance sale as supporters can pay on entry at the turnstile for all other sections of the ground.

Season ticket holders in the Main Stand, Family Stand and Enclosure have until 5pm on Wednesday, March 18 to claim their usual seats. Tickets will be priced at normal Blue Square Premier prices but only cash/ cheque payments can be accepted for this fixture.
