Contract offer for Adam Boyes

ADAM Boyes has been offered a professional contract by York City.

Manager Colin Walker said the youth team ace, who turns 18 tomorrow, has been offered terms by the Minstermen and is currently mulling over the club’s offer.

Boyes has been on the fringes of the first team this season, as well as starring in the reserves and for Neil Redfearn’s Minstermites, and Walker is keen to further his development.

“We have just made him a contract offer and he is mulling over that as we speak,” Walker said.

Boyes played the last 27 minutes when City exited the FA Cup at Mansfield on Tuesday night, and the Minstermen chief says he plans to ease the youngster into Blue Square Premier action.

“This league is very competitive and very strong,” Walker added. “He’s 6’2” but he’s still finding his weight. We are easing him slowly. He’s not far away and he’s going to be involved all the way now.”

Thats it, leave it to the day before his birthday to get terms offered. This should have been tied up ages ago.

Here's the new signing CW was looking for prior to this weekends game!!!

On a serious note though, congratulations to Adam and I hope your progress continues.

It's about time that Adam Boyes starts games. Easing him in hey! well we have 17 yr old lads playing for the Gunners in the Champions League and plenty of others at that age playing several divs above us. Perhaps we could get Thorntons butchers to supply some good old Yorkshire beef to put a few pounds on the lad.

cityfan, this isn't a last-minute deal, it's actually very early.
Most scholars are not offered a professional deal till the end of their scholarship, which for Boyes is May 2009. So this is very early.

His 18th birthday has nothing to do with it. Any player can turn professional from their 17th birthday onwards.

Maybe you should check your facts next time?

RuralChap, the nature of football in European and Premier League matches means a developed technique permits a 17 year-old game time.
At this level, a talented 17 year old who has yet to develop physically would soon be kicked out of the game, possibly permanently.
Easing him in is the right choice for his long-term future.
