TADCASTER Albion's penultimate match of the season saw the Brewers extend their unbeaten run to eight matches in a goalless draw with Rossington Main.

The visitors, Rossington Main, had enjoyed a terrific season, their first in the Northern Counties Eastern League premier division, which has seen them secure a play-off position.

Rossington were quickly on the attack after Owen Eames was fouled in the second minute but the free kick resulted in a goal kick.

Oli Norman was next to be clattered by Shepherd just beyond the eighteen-yard line after a good move with Jordan Hines and Ben Tweed – his free kick brought out a fine save from keeper Jim Pollard.

On 11 minutes, it was Norman again attacking down the left flank and linking well with Tweed, before picking out Raeece Ellington whose 20-yard strike skimmed the outside of the post.

Rossington replied immediately with Manasse Kianga setting up Ross Hannah, who miscued his shot whilst Eames again caused problems but Elliot Holmes’ intervention saw the ball away for a corner.

Norman had Tad’s next chance having been set on his way by Charlie Owen but his cross into the six-yard box was cleared by Freddie Allen.

On 18 minutes Rossington had a chance to take the lead; Hannah’s shot was brilliantly saved by Green, chesting the ball away but only as far as the incoming Eames whose header hit the post before Green cleared the danger.

With ten minutes of the half remaining, Rossington had the ball in the net as Hannah slid in but it was ruled as offside.

Albion had the final say in the first half with Ellington’s shot blocked and then Tweed got on the end of a Josh Hardcastle pass but the shot lacked power.

The start of the second half saw both teams almost pausing for breath but that changed on 60 minutes when Norman was pushed in the box, but the referee waved away any shouts for a penalty.

Kianga on a run beat two Taddy defenders but shot wide whist on 72 minutes, Norman found himself through on goal, but just offside.

Joe Crosby went close, rounding goalkeeper Pollard who recovered in time to keep the score level.

Norman had a chance but chose to pass when a shot was potenitally on, and the danger was cleared. With ten minutes left on the clock Hardcastle put a defence splitting cross into the box but neither Crosby nor Norman could get a foot on it

On 87 minutes, play was held up when when Rossington captain Greg Young pulled up suddenly and in considerable pain had to be helped from the pitch.

With all of their substitutes already in action it meant Rossington were down to ten men but Tad could not capitalise.

Lewis Archer had a chance for the visitors in added time but shot wide and a last-minute corner for Albion was cleared.

It ended goalless – the right result from a pulsating match – Tadcaster’s eighth consecutive unbeaten game and a second half to the season of which the team can be proud.
