BURNHOLME B snooker team have potted their way to double snooker glory in the York CIU snooker league which is played off scratch.

The trio of Clive Whyte, Pete Musson and Mark Winskill bagged the double by winning Division one and the Team K.O.

In the league, Burnholme B finished on 50 points, winning Division one by 12 points and along the way won 36 out of 48 frames played.

Burnholme B also won the Team K.O beating Acomb B in the final in three close frames which could have gone either way.

Division one runner-up spot went to Acomb B led by John Dowd, who was ably supported by Mick Borg, Cameron Fennell, and Sean Gallagher.

Division one’s most valuable player award (MVP) was won by St Clements’ Billy Francis who had a brilliant season winning 13 out of 15 matches played and a positive point score of 387.

Mark Winskill (Burnholme B) secured runner-up spot winning 12 out of 16 matches and a positive points difference of 603 - the highest of any player in the league.

Division two was won by Poppleton Road who just pipped Severus A by two points, with both teams promoted to Division one.

Division two MVP was won by Poppleton Roads’ Steve Musgrave who won 14 out of 18 matches played, with a positive points score of 234.

The highest break of the season was won by Clive Whyte (Burnholme B) with a run of 86.

The second-highest break was a brilliant 78 made by Adrian Barraclough representing Haxby B. Kevin Gall (Fulfordgate) also made 67.

CIU Singles K.O

John Dowd from Acomb won the CIU Snooker individual which is played off scratch over one frame.

In the first semi-final Dowd, aided by a 32 break, overcame Pete Musson (Burnholme) in a tight frame that turned when Musson went in off the last blue.

In the second semi-final, Tom Lewis (Bootham) overcame Mick Borg (Acomb).

After a cagey opening Dowd took control of the final with some clean potting and won the match on the colours.

CIU Doubles K.O

John Dowd and Mick Borg from Acomb won the CIU Snooker Pairs K.O, which is played off scratch over one frame.

The pair overcame Clive Whyte & Pete Musson (Burnholme) in a closely fought frame. The blue proved to be the crucial ball as the pink was sat over the middle pocket. After a bout of safety, Dowd stepped in to sink both blue and pink to win the match.

In the first semi-final Whyte & Musson had overcome Tom Lewis/Paul Mahoney (Bootham) and Dowd & Borg had beaten K Harris and M Glazier from Huntington.
