HEWORTH ARLC made it three wins in a row with a comfortable 36-24 success over division one outfit Hull Dockers at Elmpark Way in National Conference League group 'G'.

It was another dominant display by the Villagers, who posted four first-half tries to lead 22-6 at the break and then went on to register three further unanswered touchdowns in the second period to put themselves out of sight at 36-6 with 18 minutes remaining.

However with the result in the bag, to the disappointment of the home supporters, they relaxed their grip on the match and paid the price by conceding three converted tries in the final seven minutes to take the gloss off another impressive performance.

Heworth were quickly out of the blocks and went in front after five minutes when second-rower Fergus Chapman followed up a pin-point kick by stand-off Danny Allan to cross for an unconverted score.

On the quarter-hour mark, they increased their advantage when scrum-half Liam Jackson ran across the face of the visitors' defensive line and, after a neat dummy, sent centre Adam Dent through the resulting gap. Allan improved the well-worked try for a 10-0 lead.

Eight minutes later, substitute forward Ben Barnard made an instant impact when, with his first touch of the ball, he blasted his way down the centre of the field and shrugged off several defenders before handing on to full-back Fraser West, who raced away to touch down under the posts. Allan added the extras.

On 28 minutes, the Dockers hit back with a long-range effort from full-back Danny Suddaby which he goaled himself to reduce the deficit to 10 points.

Undeterred, the Villagers had winger Cam Taylor denied another score because of a forward pass before substitute Dave Hayes scooted away direct from acting half 20 metres out and crossed close to the sticks for Allan to slot the conversion.

The early part of the second period was a scrappy affair with the Humbersiders launching a determined effort to get themselves back into the game, which led to the hosts allowing them some good field position by conceding a number of needless penalties.

But the defence held firm and on 53 minutes the Black and Whites regained control when second-rower Liam Watling burst through a gap close to the home line to go in for an unconverted try. Four minutes later, a long cut-out pass from Chapman sent winger Jake Atkinson charging over in the right corner.

It was all one-way traffic by this point and, on 62 minutes, Chapman notched his second touchdown after creating a gap in the visitors' defence with a neat side-step. Centre Tyler Craig's conversion gave the Villagers what seemed like an unassailable lead but they gave themselves a few nervous moments by taking their foot off the gas and allowing loose forward George Russell, winger Lewis Suddaby and stand-off Charlie Richmond to cross in quick succession. Danny Suddaby added the extras to complete a perfect afternoon with the boot.

Chapman took Heworth's man-of-the-match award with prop Jonny Payne, hooker Ben Dyson-Dent and sibling Adam Dent all in close contention.

The Villagers will go full of confidence into next Saturday's eagerly-awaited clash with fierce cross-city rivals York Acorn at Elmpark Way.
