YORK City players will be able to toast their victories or drown their sorrows with their families from now on.

The Moorlane Players Family Lounge has been officially opened by City skipper Manny Panther and supporter Paul Newsholme, from Moorlane Construction.

About the new room, Manny said: "This is a great facility for the players and our families to use on match days. Previously, there has been nowhere specific for our families to go before the match and during the half-time break.

"This has been particularly difficult for me as my father is blind and when he comes to games I want to make sure he is well looked after. The new lounge will also help to strengthen and boost team morale as we now have a room of our own we can use after the match and our families will also have the opportunity to get to know each other better."

The lounge is situated where the club's former programme room was based and stadium development director Ian McAndrew said: "We would like to thank Moorlane Construction for all their help and assistance with the refurbishment project.

"They have provided time and resources free of charge and we are very grateful for the new facility they have created."

City fan Newsholme added: "I've been a supporter for 25 years and have a lot of affection for York City. Moorlane Construction has undertaken various works at the club in recent years, including repairs to the car park tarmac and work on the social club's floor.

"As a local company we are delighted that we have the ability to help and support York City and we hope the new Moorlane Players' Family Lounge is a great success."
