YORK Minster Engineering League leaders Huntington Rovers fought back from 2-0 down at home against Church Fenton to preserve their 100 per cent start to the season.

Liam McEntee and Neil Dixon fired Fenton into a commanding position with just 25 minutes gone, but Alex Burton slotted home late in the first half to reduce the deficit.

Rovers then dominated the second-half with Ash Hope hitting the woodwork before Jonny Bullivant’s effort restored parity.

A powerful header from Burton then wrapped up the premier division points, with Simon Hudson saving a late penalty as Huntington pushed for further goals late in the game.

Second-placed Dunnington returned to form at home to Kirkbymoorside, as goals from Simon Castle (2), Tom Anderson (2) and Darren Sellars fired them to a 5-1 success over Kirkbymoorside, for whom Daniel Greaves netted.

A second-half goal from Harvey Townley was enough to gain Old Malton St Mary’s all three points from their trip to Thorpe United and keep them six points behind the table toppers with a game in hand.

Danny Owers struck for Sporting Knavesmire but they were overpowered by a dominant Tadcaster Magnets side, who gained a 6-1 triumph, moving them up to fourth position in the table.

Tom Hullock bagged a brace for Knavesmire with Scott Collins, Finn Coughlan, Hugh Barlow and Tom Charlesworth also getting in on the act.

Copmanthorpe’s season continues to look bleak following their 9-2 loss at Wigginton Grasshoppers.

Jamie Willstrop led the scoring for the hosts with a hat-trick and was supported by double-strikes from Matthew Tiplady and Harry Clapham.

A late goal from Tichoana Nyenda and a Neale Holmes penalty completed their haul with a Ben Jones brace giving Copmanthorpe scant consolation.

F1 Racing controlled the first half of their game with Poppleton United and led 2-0 at the break with a goal from Dan Hickey and a 25-yard effort from Chris Smith.

Poppleton pulled one back on the hour and then equalised ten minutes later, but F1 moved in front again via Ada Tiffany.

As the clock ticked down, a resilient Poppy side moved back level only to see Mike Flinders sweep the ball home following good work from Jonah Tomlin-Kent in the dying moments of the game to claim the points for F1.

Poppleton’s scorers in their 4-3 loss were Luke Wilkinson, Kevin Luke and Ciaran Blondrage.

In midweek, Huntington had survived another scare at Hemingbrough United before pulling away late in the game.

It looked to be a fairly easy task for the visitors after Bullivant fired them ahead before unleashing a screamer of a strike to make it 2-0 early in the game.

Iain Blackburn then reduced the deficit before Burton made it 3-1 to Rovers.

Hemingbrough rallied after the break and seized control of the game with Daniel Thompson and Jamie Wheeler finding the net to restore parity with 15 minutes remaining.

However, Burton struck his second for Rovers on the break and, with the home side pushing for an equaliser, Chris Dyson unleashed an unstoppable strike from 25 yards to seal a 5-3 win.

A fiery game at Osbaldwick saw them draw level at 2-2 against Poppleton United with 15 minutes remaining.

However, with two red cards for the hosts in the latter stages and two penalties awarded to Poppleton, the game became very one-sided in the final minutes.

Poppleton took full advantage and ran out 6-2 winners, with the only positives for Osso being strikes from Dan Davidson and Lucas Wilson.

Thomas Franklin, Collins, Barlow and Charlesworth struck for Tadcaster Magnets as they moved up to fifth with a 4-0 win over Copmanthorpe.
