NATIONAL League North title favourites Stockport County will visit York City, having only lost one league game on their travels since January.

The Hatters won five and drew one of their final seven away fixtures of 2017/18 - a 3-1 Thursday night defeat to Kidderminster proving the only reverse during that time in April.

Jim Gannon’s men finished last term in impressive fashion home and away with Saturday’s 5-1 mauling of FC United of Manchester, meaning the former Championship club have won nine of their last 13 competitive games.

Stockport’s form during the end-of-season run-in saw them finish fifth in the final standings last term, before they were beaten 1-0 at home by Chorley in the first round of play-off fixtures.

Since then, Gannon has lost the services of forward Jason Oswell, whose tally of 25 league goals placed him just two behind the division’s top marksman Jason Gilchrist at Southport.

Oswell’s exploits earned him a move to League Two Morecambe but County have retained the services of former Salford attacker Matty Warburton, who netted 16 times in the league last season, including the second during January’s 2-0 home triumph against the Minstermen.

He has wasted no time getting off the mark this term either, bagging a first-half brace at the weekend.

New striker Frank Mulhern, recruited from relegated National League outfit Guiseley over the summer, also netted against FC United, as did ex-Oldham winger Kallum Mantack, who spent a month on loan at Edgeley Park last season.

Mantack completed the scoring after coming off the bench as a 76th-minute substitute.

Centre-back Ash Palmer and midfielder Jordan Keane, who arrived from Guiseley and Boston United respectively over the summer, both made their full Hatters debuts too against FC United.

Two further new additions - Gateshead forward Nyal Bell and Chesterfield midfielder Connor Dimaio - tasted their first action in County colours, meanwhile, from the bench.

Jake Kirby did not feature having returned to Stockport from Tranmere and he is the only player currently unavailable after suffering a pre-season injury during the 1-0 friendly defeat at home to Rochdale.

Stockport are expected to field the same 4-2-3-1 formation that they used at the weekend and, with a bumper crowd of 4,690 including 761 visitors attracted for the FC United contest, a big travelling army of fans are expected at Bootham Crescent, where their team will kick off the match as early league leaders due to their thumping opening-day victory.
