YORKSHIRE head coach Andrew Gale hailed the efforts of paceman Matthew Fisher following the Royal London One-day Cup victory at Leicestershire.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge star Fisher tore a muscle in his side on his previous trip to the Fischer County Ground in pre-season.

But on his first start for the White Rose since returning from that injury, he took a superb 3-40 from 10 overs to set the platform for Sunday's nine-wicket win, which was capped by a brilliant 132 not out from skipper Adam Lyth.

Fisher's efforts, including the wickets of Cameron Delport and Paul Horton, restricted Leicestershire to 39-3 early on and he returned at the end of the innings to dismiss Richard Jones, the hosts finishing on 293-9.

"I'm really pleased for Matthew Fisher," said Gale. "He tore his side here in a pre-season game so to come back and go and perform like that, I'm really pleased for him.

"(It was) a very good win. We spoke about starting well and so to take three wickets in the first 10 overs was excellent. The two lads up front (Ben Coad and Fisher) did an exceptional job.

Leicestershire played some good cricket in the middle but we kept taking wickets and we felt about 330 was par on that wicket."

Yorkshire next go to Derbyshire tomorrow seeking a third victory in six North Group matches, and Gale said the successful chase should boost confidence.

Added Gale: "I thought the two openers set a really good platform, as they have done throughout the tournament.

"I've been pretty harsh on Lythy lately for getting out in the 30s, so for him to go on and get a big unbeaten century was good to see.

"To chase a total like that down as easily as we did, that will give the batting unit a lot of confidence."
