SELBY Town earned their first win in four with a 2-1 home victory over Northern Counties East League division one champions Knaresborough Town.
The Robins kept alive their slim hopes of making the play-offs with the win - maximum returns from their four remaining games could see them just squeak in.
As the match started, the champions' pedigree was immediately obvious, but Selby’s pace up front unsettled that back line.
Inside 120 seconds, the Robins were ahead after a quick passing move put Gary Collier in on goal to calmly slot home before continued pressure saw Selby double their lead just six minutes later through Joe Dale.
It was inevitable that Knaresborough’s class would tell, however, and Jack Carr, who was brought on for the final couple of minutes of the half, scored with the final kick of the half from a goalmouth scramble.
The second half continued in much the same vein with Knaresborough looking to get something out of the game, but Selby prevented them creating any clear-cut chances.
Selby had the best chance of the half, when Liam Flanagan rolled the ball along the goalline with the keeper stranded, but the two early strikes proved to be enough.
