TADCASTER Albion have to be “on their game” for their final match of the Evo-Stik League north season tomorrow when they host Mossley.

Albion have been handed a play-off lifeline after Hyde United's promotion ensured the play-off places would extend down to seventh, with the Brewers now competing against Colne and Colwyn Bay for the final slot.

Colwyn Bay travel to Hyde and Colne are away to runaway leaders South Shields, giving Tadcaster every incentive to close out the regular season with a win.

Harry Sheppeard may make his final appearance as a Brewers player on Saturday following the hugely promising teenage defender's signing by Championship side Sheffield United.

The pacey full-back made 18 appearances this season, scoring one and recording one assist. He will join the Blades on a two-year deal.

Eighth-placed Albion were 2-0 winners at a sodden Ossett Town on Tuesday night with Casey Stewart again bagging a brace in West Yorkshire to move within three points of the final play-off spot.

Will Annan had the first effort in the unrelenting rain, driving dangerously at the Town full-back, jinking inside and bending a shot just the wrong side of the left-hand upright after three minutes.

However, six minutes later, Taddy were ahead as Stewart beat keeper Leigh Overton with a fierce near-post effort.

He came close to creating Taddy’s second midway through the half, playing across the face of goal for Annan who failed to convert, before netting in the 25th minute with a glancing header from Billy Whitehouse’s corner.

Ossett came out strongly in the second period with Nicky Boshell slicing a volley inches wide and Aaron Hardy clearing Alex Peterson’s header off the line, but rode the wave of pressure and saw out the nervy final 10 minutes.

Tomorrow’s opponents, Mossley, are 17th with one win in five. Last week they fell to a last-second goal in a 2-1 loss at home to Hyde United.

But Taddy are wary of the threat the bottom sides pose to teams whose mentality is not right, having recently been beaten 2-1 at home to lowly Radcliffe Borough.

Club spokesman Jay Taylor said: “We did well to grab two goals (at Ossett) when we were in the ascendancy.

“Mossley will be a tough game, as ever. We played them the last game of last season and they beat us.

“They’re down the bottom and playing for nothing, but we’ve got to be on our game. We went into the game against Radcliffe thinking we were going to win, so we’ve got to be on it.

“We’re all delighted for Harry. He’s absolutely buzzing, as you would be, with the chance to play professionally.

“Sheffield have obviously been impressed by what they’ve seen. But he realises the hard work starts now and that he can’t rest on his laurels. Hopefully he can kick on.”

Midfield stalwart Pete Davidson is likely to feature tomorrow while Stewart may well keep his place. Aiden Savory could return despite picking up a small injury.

Promoted Scarborough Athletic will secure a second-placed finish if they avoid defeat tomorrow at home to 14th-placed Ossett Albion.

The Seadogs saw off Glossop North End 2-1 on Tuesday after having secured Evo-Stik League premier football next season with last weekend’s win at Colne.

Two losses in the last two games have seen Harrogate Town fall away in the National League North title challenge, but will finish second and enter the play-offs at the semi-final stage on Sunday, May 6.

Tomorrow, Town host 18th-placed Curzon Ashton.
