JOSH Schofield and Charlotte Mason secured a double for City of York Athletic Club with victories in the opening race of a new 5k series.

The pair were men’s and women’s winners respectively in the York 5k Series at the University of York cycle circuit.

Schofield finished more than 200 metres clear of second-placed Reece Dalton (Richmond and Zetland Harriers) after a dominant display over the five-lap course.

He clocked 15mins 10secs to Dalton’s 15-54, while City of York had two other men in the top ten thanks to George Cook (16-31) and James Tucker (16-42) finishing fifth and sixth respectively.

Mason took the women’s honours by an even bigger margin in 17-49, with runner-up Stella Cross (Wetherby Runners) clocking 18-59.

City of York’s Libby Brown was sixth woman home in 20-21 ahead of her mum Joan, who was first vet 50 in 22-47.

Elsewhere, James Richardson and Amanda Cooper completed the Vale of York 10 mile race in 1-20-22 and 1-47-02 respectively.

City of York had 11 athletes in parkrun action, with Toby Antcliff achieving their fastest men’s time of 17-39 at Dalby Forest and Georgia Neary (21-21) their quickest female at York.

Meanwhile, Lottie Langham has been confirmed as Year 5 and 6 girls’ champion in the Peco Cross Country League after a series of consistent races.
