TADCASTER Albion are preparing for a “massive game” in the Evo-Stik League north when they come up against an in-form Atherton Collieries tomorrow.

The Brewers have shot up into sixth and the play-off places following a run of seven league games unbeaten – but the visiting Colls can boast a matching record which they capped off midweek with an Integro League Cup second-round win over high-fliers Bamber Bridge.

Tuesday night also saw a win for Taddy who survived a few scares in the opening 45 to come away with a 2-1 home win over Colwyn Bay thanks to a second-half brace from the “outstanding” Aiden Savory.

The glut of points is coming at the right time for Taddy too, and they will want to keep them coming with games against four of the top five on the horizon.

Club spokesman Jay Taylor said: “We’re very pleased with the performance. It was a similar game to Droylsden and we had a few scares in the first half but we know we’re strong on the counter with Billy Whitehouse and Aiden Savory.

“In the second half we came flying out of the blocks and Savory scored a brilliant overhead kick. He was outstanding all night.

“One of the things we’re doing well at the minute is scoring at crucial times, and we just seemed to go from there.

“You could say it was a game of two halves in some respects.

“Atherton is a massive game for us. They look like they’re towards the bottom, but a win on Saturday for them and they’re mid-table.

“We can’t take them lightly at all and, like us, they’ll believe they can win the game.

“It’s a meeting of two in-form sides.”

Colwyn Bay started the game midweek the brighter, edging the first half, and they came close to breaking the deadlock through Astley Mulholland whose effort left the crossbar shaking before Michael Ingham was called on to push away Louis Barnes’ 27-yard effort.

Although Albion had less of the first-half possession, they did not have to contend with too much in the final third, while Whitehouse managed to get a shot away before the break, but his well-worked overhead kick was not enough to trouble keeper Matt Cooper.

It took only 30 seconds after the restart for Savory to give the Brewers the lead, flicking Whitehouse’s cross over his head and dispatching the difficult effort into the bottom corner.

The Brewers were well on top in the second period with Whitehouse, Pete Davidson and Casey Stewart all coming close before Savory got his second with three minutes remaining, latching onto Fraser Papprill’s drilled clearance, outpacing his marker and firing in.

There was time for the visitors to pull one back with a Gareth Grant header, but nothing more.
