WIGGINTON Grasshoppers pulled 20 points clear at the top of the York Minster Engineering League premier division following a 4-1 win at Poppleton United.

The visitors did not have it all their own way, though, as Joe Schofield's third-minute goal separated the sides for the opening period.

Grasshoppers went into the break level thanks to a Jamie Willstrop effort, and took control of the game in the second period when Neale Holmes rifled home from 20 yards.

Matthew Tiplady added 20 minutes from time before Luke Addison produced a neat 25-yard chip to seal the points.

Hoppers' nearest rivals, Old Malton St Mary's, who have had various cup commitments, return to league action next week with six games in hand on the leaders.

Huntington Rovers remain third after four first-half goals gave them a comfortable 4-0 victory at York RI.

Gary Mitchinson produced a bullet header to send home an Elliot Fenton cross early doors before Chris Dyson matched the effort shortly afterwards from the same source.

Dyson doubled his tally with a 30-yard rocket before Fenton scored with a cross-cum-shot which crept in at the far post.

Level on points with Huntington, Osbaldwick earned a 2-0 win over Copmanthorpe thanks to finishes from Dan Davison and John Paul Vass.

F1 Racing cruised into a four-goal lead at the break en route to a 5-0 win against Church Fenton.

A great individual effort from Solly Tomlin-Kent set them on their way with Dan Hickey adding a splendid effort to double their advantage. Further goals from Chris Dempsey and Adam Tiffany increased the lead before Liam King added a fifth in the second period.

Some excellent goalkeeping by Dan Calliste prevented the visitors from scoring on a number of occasions.

Dunnington struck late to earn a 2-2 draw at Malton & Norton.

The visitors had taken an early lead before a Simon Reeves brace turned the game on its head before half-time.

With the home side looking likely winners, they were dealt a bitter blow when Dunnington levelled with seven minutes remaining.

An own goal plus efforts from Joe Rawcliffe and Dave Watson gave Dringhouses a 3-0 victory over Tadcaster Magnets, who remain three points adrift of safety.

In division one, second-placed Kirkbymoorside continued their promotion push with 2-1 triumph over Tockwith, leaving them 12 points behind leaders Thorpe United with three games in hand.

The hosts dominated first-half proceedings but had to wait until the 40th minute to finally take the lead when Brad Magson forced the ball over the line at the second attempt.

The lead was doubled early in the second period when Jonny Brown latched onto a poor back pass to round the keeper and slot home. Tockwith clawed their way back into the game courtesy of a well-taken volley, but the Moorsiders hung on for a vital three points.

Third-placed Rawcliffe's 0-0 draw with Pocklington Town made the result even more important.

Cliffe ended their recent goal drought in some style, beating Wilberfoss 8-1. Isaac Leach (4), Tom Collins (2), Darren Jackson and Paul Tiffany were all on target for the visitors.

Old Malton St Mary's, meanwhile, eased into the third round of the York Minster Engineering League Senior Cup with an 8-0 demolition of Harrison Signs.

Sporting Knavesmire join them in the draw following a 3-1 win at Riccall United, with Thorpe also making the grade with a 3-2 victory over Hemingbrough United.
