TADCASTER Albion boss Michael Morton has called on his team to back up their midweek point at Evo-Stik League north leaders South Shields with a good performance at Clitheroe.

The Brewers put on a solid performance as they earned a 0-0 draw against a strong Shields side who have failed to win only three home games all season.

And while the manner of the draw was pleasing to managers Morton and Simon Collins, as well as the team, Albion need to now take the momentum to sixth-placed Clitheroe.

Morton told Tadcaster Albion’s website: “We need to go and get a result, because if we’re getting beaten there you’re just thinking ‘is it (South Shields) as good a result as it seems now?’

“Clitheroe are a good side – they’ve got two lively forwards with a lot of energy, but we’ll go there full of confidence and give everything like we have done all season.”

A talking point for the managers after the match was the full debut of 18-year-old Harry Sheppeard, who impressed in his role as a wing-back, as Morton and Collins elected to play three in defence for the first time this season.

Collins said of his debut: “It was fully deserved. He’s not the only one – there’s loads more lads pushing to get a chance – but Shep’s been superb for us, not just this year but last year as well.

“We trust him enough to chuck him in the deep end. Me and Mikey have trust in the lads and we’re not scared to chuck them in at any point.”

Former Premier League star Julio Arca created the best chance of the half, raking a ball over for Carl Finnigan, whose strike was saved by Arca's former Sunderland teammate Michael Ingham, and his follow-up header cleared by Jason Mycoe.

Albion started the second half on the front foot, and Casey Stewart came incredibly close when he chased keeper Liam Connell down, with the keeper’s kick rebounding goalwards off the youngster, but just the wrong side of the left upright.

Shields ramped up the pressure in the closing stages, but could not find a way past Albion, while Pete Davidson had a low drive cleared off the line at the other end.

Selby Town had their midweek Northern Counties East League premier home clash with Brigg Town postponed after initially being given the go-ahead. The match has been rearranged for Tuesday, March 13.

The Robins are in league action tomorrow when they travel to eighth-placed Glasshoughton Welfare.

Leaders Knaresborough Town travel to 16th-placed East Yorkshire Carnegie, who have lost nine of their last 11. Boro were held to a 0-0 draw by Campion last weekend.

Premier division Harrogate Railway Athletic are on their best league run of the season with three consecutive wins. Tomorrow they host 16th-placed Hall Road Rangers.

National League North Harrogate Town bounced back from last weekend’s 2-1 loss at leaders Salford City with a 4-1 home thumping of Stockport County.

Tomorrow they host AFC Telford United, who sit 20th after losing their last three games, including a 5-3 home defeat to York City.
