MALTON & Norton took the derby honours with a 2-1 home victory over Old Malton St Mary's in the third round of the York and District FA Saturday Senior Cup.
An already-depleted Malton & Norton side were missing three players and suffered a major blow just before kick-off when two more were injured in the warm-up.
However, this didn't deter the home side who – following two penalty shoot-out defeats over the last two seasons – knuckled down to the task in hand.
The game was a stalemate until the 20th minute when Malton & Norton keeper Ben Gill dropped a cross on to the head of Old Malton forward Marcus Godsell to gift him a goal.
Both teams cancelled each other out until the 35th minute when Malton & Norton forward Scott Preston found himself in acres of space before firing past the helpless Jack Boyd to level the scores ahead of the half-time break.
The second half was much the same as the first – a cagey affair with no team taking control.
But then, on 85 minutes, Malton & Norton’s Matty Reeves picked up the ball 30 yards out, drove passed Nichols and Shipley in the Old Malton defence, before unleashing a fierce drive past Boyd to seal the game.
That signalled a long-awaited cup win – with the prize being a place in the last four of the competition.
Wigginton Grasshoppers will face Dunnington in the other semi-final following a 3-1 defeat of Pocklington Town at Mill Lane.
The home side survived an early scare when goalkeeper Michael Clancy had to rush back to goal to clear a backpass off his line, but from that moment the hosts were rarely in danger.
Jamie Willstrop fired a warning shot against the post after 15 minutes and followed it up five minutes later, rifling a shot into the top corner to open the scoring.
Matt Tiplady converted a Gary Newton cross ten minutes later to make it 2-0, before completing his brace three minutes later from close range to put Wigginton out of sight.
An early second-half rally from Pocklington saw them net, but from then on it was largely one-way traffic with the home side failing to add to their lead.
Dunnington had to work hard to overcome a resolute Rawcliffe with goals from Jake Hall, Angus Richardson, Samson Wildwood and Tom Richards. Rawcliffe replied through Simon Wilson.
Huntington Rovers managed a 2-1 away win at Hemingbrough United after being a goal down at half-time. Steve Jarman levelled the scores, and Chris Dyson headed the winner from a Jon James cross.
Andy Norman doubled up as Civil Service progressed in the York and District FA Saturday Junior Cup at Selby Olympia's expense.
Civil Service were 1-0 up at half-time thanks to Sam Hardcastle's finish before Norman added their second.
Selby pulled a goal back from the penalty spot before Norman grabbed another to give Civil Service a 3-1 home win.
After an exciting 4-4 draw, home side Tockwith Reserves beat Dunnington Reserves 9-8 on penalties.
A brace from Lee Dutton, and one each from Callum Pattinson and Liam Keenaghan gave Rufforth United a 4-2 win at home to Hemingbrough Reserves.
Elsewhere, a Deacon Higgs volley provided the winner for Malt Shovel who put out Haxby Town 3-2.
