HEAVY showers did not prevent the York Veterans' Bowling Association from completing their knockout finals day at West Park.

In the Maddison Cup final, the Shipton rink of Stewart Andrew, Maurice Peacock, Bob Elliott and Brian Gray got off to flying start and led the Dringhouses 'A' team of Wally Derbyshire, Phil Turnbull, Geoff Symons and Malcolm Thompson 12-1 midway through the 18 ends final.

Dringy fought back to 14-9 with four ends to play but Shipton won three of them to triumph 20-10.

The Coronation Cup showdown between the Dunnington 'A' team of Graham Instone, Humphrey Jones, Dave Kermode and Dick Osguthorpe and the Haxby Road team of John Butler, Alan Clapham, Brian Brigham and Ken Harrison went all the way to an extra end - Dunnington winning 16-15.

Dunnington led 5-1 after six ends but Haxby Road levelled at 8-8 after 11 and went 11-8 up after 13.

Dunnington scored a four at the 14th to retake the lead and they led 15-13 with one end to go, Haxby Road scoring a two to take the contest into overtime.

Haxby Road beat Barbican at an extra end of their semi-final but this time they were on the receiving end as Dunnington bagged a single to take the trophy.
