ACOMB A have retained the York Conservative Clubs Carlsberg UK Snooker League title following a 6-1 victory over Heworth A.

Four teams were still in a chance of finishing champions going into the last night of fixtures, but Acomb took the honours just one point ahead of Fulford A, with Bootham A and Fulford B a further point behind.

Acomb A’s Dan Potter got off to a flyer with breaks of 58 and 41 against Kevin Gall.

John Dowd levelled the match by beating Acomb captain Richard Lillie, but the outcome was settled with wins for Jon Milner, Nick Marchant, Keith Thornhill, Paul Holmes and Mick Borg over Mark Winskill, Mark Hodson, Clive Whyte, Steve Burdett and Keith Watkinson respectively.

Fulford A just failed as they needed to win 5-2 to pip Acomb but could only defeat Malton 4-3.

Wayne Puleston got Fulford off to a good start, but captain Alan Reed lost to Dominic Spiteri.

Wins folowed for Tom Wilson and Sam Parkinson over Steve Pawson and Steve Beal respectively.

But Malton’s Dan Pawson and Phil Hart beat Pete Dunmore and Tom Lewis respectively, meaning Sam England ‘s defeat of Chris Atkinson could not wrestle the title away from Acomb.

The metting of the other contenders - Fulford B and Bootham A - saw the former prevail 4-3 to take the B team championship for the first time.

This win meant Fulford B took the B team championship for the first time with Phil Cooke edging out Tim Fillingham on the pink in the first frame.

Rob Barron levelled the match by beating Fulford’s Dean Smith.

Going in-off the final pink cost Jeff Brown victory against Lee Elveridge and Fulford captain Bob Smith extended his team’s lead to 3-1after defeating Colin Robinson.

Andy Wynn took brown to pink against Mo Mohammed to reduce the deficit, but John Anderson held off a late effort from Barry Rankin to win on the pink to put Fulford into an unassailable.

The drama continued to the last frame, however, as Stuart Martel beat Russ Shaw on a re-spotted black to make the final score 4-3.

Acomb B overcame Heworth B 4-3 with wins for Steve Rodgers, Chris Nicholson, Andy Morgan and Kevin Ventress, whilst Andy Ogley, John Sherlock and Simon Whiteley replied.
