WIGGINTON Grasshoppers opened up a massive 13 point lead at the top of the York Minster Engineering League premier division after rivals Huntington Rovers slipped to defeat at Sporting Knavesmire.

Wigginton won 2-1 against one of their 'bogey' sides, Riccall United, the 2015 champions.

Jamie Willstrop put Hoppers into the lead with a curling low drive on the half hour mark but Riccall were back on level terms within a minute thanks to a Josh Lamming free-kick.

The second-half saw chances at both ends and Willstrop twice went close before finally grabbing the winner ten minutes from time.

There was late drama as Gary Collier struck a post in the final minutes, but Wigginton held firm to claim the all important points and leave Riccall firmly in the middle of a relegation battle.

Huntington held a commanding 3-1 half-time lead at Sporting Knavesmire through efforts from George Brown, Nicke Rakocevil and Jon James but the hosts produced a fantastic second-half comeback to win 4-3. T Owen had found the net for Sporting in the first half before Danny Owers hit the target early in the second period. Jake Duckworth restored parity before hitting a late winner to complete his brace.

Dunnington and Old Malton played out a goalless draw, St Mary's ninth share-all of the season.

Craig Atkinson and Kieran Harris fired York RI to a 2-0 win at home to Osbaldwick, a result that sees RI move out of the bottom four as the battle to remain in the premier league reaches its climax. Also involved in the scrap are Tadcaster Magnets, who were done no favours by their visitors, fourth placed Malton and Norton who scored a 5-2 victory.

Church Fenton White Horse demolished relegated Brooklyn hitting six without reply. Lenny Mason, Ali Cope, Lewis Beecher, Adam Beavers, Liam McEntee and Joe Smythe grabbed their goals.

Poppleton United moved back to the top of Division One with a 6-1 humbling of York St John University. Robert Forrester, Will Edmond and Regwan Miah all found the net whilst Adam Douse stole the show with a hat-trick. Joe Thompson replied for the students. Poppy now just need to win their remaining two games to secure the title ahead of second placed Pocklington Town.

Graham Hutchinson and Mario Campagna bagged for Tockwith as they registered a 2-1 win at Thorpe United. Jason Brown (2) and Danny Butterworth netted for Kirkbymoorside in a 3-2 win at Heslington. The hosts' tally was comprised of an own goal along with an Adam Stelmach effort. Heslington are now officially relegated to Division Two with the question being whether it will be Cliffe or York St John who join them in the third tier.

Bishopthorpe United moved level on points with Strensall following a 6-2 victory over their promotion rivals. That defeat means that Wilberfoss are promoted as champions without even kicking a ball this weekend. Despite this result though, Barmby Moor still occupy second place following their 4-0 home success over Civil Service. Strikes from Curtis Barker (2) and Aaron Lefevre plus an own goal secured the win. BArmby Moor are one point clear of both Bishopthorpe and Strensall but the latter two teams enjoy a game in hand.

Huby United battled to a 2-1 success over Division Three table toppers Heworth Green, a win that secured their promotion to Division Two along with the title favourites. Callum Hannigan struck for the home side for whom a win should be enough to see them ascend as champions courtesy of their superior goal difference. Luke Redhead struck for The Raj but they went down 5-1 at South Milford.

Wetherby Athletic continue to head up Division Four after goals from Chris Plews and Anthony Walsh gave them a 2-0 win over Wheldrake. Bubwith White Swan sit second following their 8-1 defeat of St Clements. Shaun Pickles fired in a hat-trick for Bubwith with Rob Joy (2), Craig Atkin (2) and Alan Jackson also getting in on the act. Malt Shovel, who didn't play, are still the biggest threat to the title hopes of both providing they win their games in hand.

Jason Wright and Kyle McDonald netted for Bramham as they drew 2-2 with Pollington. AFC Crayke scored a 7-4 win over bottom club LNER Builders. Anthony Boyd (5), Liam Kettlewell and John Dey were on target for the hosts.
