DERWIN MARTINA will not now be coming to York City, the club have said.
The Minstermen hoped to have the Curacao international full-back available for Saturday's home match against Eastleigh but the 22-year-old has not been given international clearance so the deal is off.
The club tweeted: "Defender Derwin Martina will not be signing for York City due to (problems with) international clearance, despite reports suggesting he had already signed for the club.
"Right-back Martina, 22, had agreed personal terms to join the Minstermen but will now return to parent club Atlantis FC in Finland."
Boss Gary Mills will now have to set his sights elsewhere if he is to snare the kind of attacking wing-back he craves after losing Lanre Oyebanjo to injury.
Mills had said of former Ajax academy player Martina after last night's 1-1 draw with Lincoln City: “Everybody knows people in the game and I’ve been looking for an attacking wing-back. Derwin came up on the radar.
“We’ve just got to get international clearance and I’m hoping he can be the player that the people who have been looking for me believe he is, because I have seen him but they’ve seen him a lot more.”
