PICKERING Town were one of three Toolstation Northern Counties East League sides to feel the force of Northern League opposition in the second round of the FA Vase on Saturday.

The Pikes went down 5-0 at home to Shildon, who are fourth in the Northern League, while also bowing out were Worksop Town, 4-0 victims of visitors Newton Aycliffe (seventh), and Division One Hallam, who went down by the same scoreline at home to Morpeth Town (third).

Michael Rae (2), Daniel Moore, David Ferguson and Amar Purewal netted for Shildon, with the seventh-placed Pikes describing themselves as smarting and hurting ahead of their league match at home to Premier Division leaders Cleethorpes Town on Tuesday.

Lowly Harrogate Railway Athletic scored via Fraser Hansen after 21 minutes but succumbed to goals at the end of the first half and second half at home to mid-table Garforth Town, with Lee Turner and Luke McCrum getting the strikes.

In Division One, 11th-placed Selby Town only lost at leaders Penistone Church to a Tom Jones strike after 53 minutes, while play-off contenders Knaresborough Town and Pontefract Collieries fought out a 2-2 draw.

Colin Heath (ten minutes) and Ben Cohen (85) twice notched equalisers for third-placed Town after Jordan Turner (seven) and Chris Wood (penalty on the hour) had put Ponte ahead.

Carl Stewart (2) and Lamin Colley gave Scarborough Athletic a 3-1 home over Droylsden that moved them joint top of Evo-Stik Division One North with Glossop North End, but the latter have two games in hand.

Harrogate Town's awful run continues in Vanarama National League North.

They lost a thriller 4-3 at home to Tamworth but only after Danny Newton had scored for the Midlanders in the 86th minute and in stoppage time.

Chib Chilaka had made it 1-1 after 36 minutes and Simon Ainge 2-2 on the stroke of half-time before Warren Burrell put Town ahead for the only time in the 56th minute.

Town haven't won in seven now, while Tamworth, who have won their last four, are up to fifth.
