NEW EARSWICK opened the indoor season with an 88-84 victory over North Cave in the North Eastern Ladies League.

At home, Sandra Hemsley, Kath Hardcastle, Sally Domville and Norma Davies - after dropping one at the first end - took control and led 10-4 after eight ends.

The Cave ladies fought back and were only two shots down at 10-8 after eleven ends but, despite dropping a four at the 20th end, New Earswick went on to win 21-16.

In the other home rink, Carol Thompson, Annette Prosser, Jackie Toms and Irene Warrington (after scoring one at the first end0 were never in the

match against Rita Hodgkinson and found themselves 2-16 behind after ten ends. They only picked up four more shots to go down 6-35.

At North Cave, both rinks won in two very similar games. Denise Elliott, Margaret Pearson, Lynn Page/Kath Sykes led Linda Wiles 19-5 after twelve ends.

Cave then pulled twelve shots back at the next four ends to trail 17-22 after eighteen ends but the Earswick rink scored eight shots at the last three ends to win 30-17.

Doramy Bellwood, Gemma Broadhead, Margaret Morgan/Monika Morgan scored a six a four and four threes to lead Margaret Dykes 23-9 after twelve ends and go on to win 31-16.
