MALT SHOVEL made a clear statement of their title challenge in the Fastpack York Sunday Morning League with a 9-3 win over the Senior Challenge Trophy holders York Nomads.
Gary Collier, Wayne Brook, Josh Brigham and Jake Raistrick all bagged braces with Luke Durham adding the ninth for the Selby side.
Chris Bilton, Isaac Clark and Liam Flanagan replied for the visitors.
Defending champions Wigginton Grasshoppers were made to work for the three points at Marcia Bishopthorpe.
The home side took the lead after half an hour after dominating play before Grasshoppers started to get a foothold in the game.
Jamie Green then broke through the Bishopthorpe back line to equalise just before the interval.
Some fine saves from Paul Wilson in the Hoppers goal prevented Marcia from taking an early second-half lead and instead it was Steve Jarvis who pounced on a loose ball to round the keeper and send Wigginton into the lead.
Marcia did not give up though and once again levelled the scores before Jamie Willstrop fired a late winner for the visitors.
Cohan Vause hit a hat-trick for Bubwith White Swan in a 7-0 win at Thorpe United.
In division two, Luke Lambert (3), Tom Lazenby (2) and Ben Scholey were on target in a 6-0 win for Selby Olympia over visiting Wentworth.
Two own goals and a Matthew Fortnam effort helped York Medics to a narrow victory over Knapton Lions.
Sam Wright had earlier given the Lions the lead and Graham Benson scored a 30-yard screamer to round off the scoring in the match.
