YORK golfer Simon Dyson made an early exit from the Italian Open as his struggles continued on the European Tour.
The Malton and Norton professional, a six time tour winner in the past, finished two over par at the end of the second round this weekend and missed the cut by two shots.
Dyson, 38, has been unable to recapture his best form since under-going a wrist operation last summer.
He has now missed the cut in 14 of his last 18 tour appearances and slipped to 228th in the Race to Dubai with total winnings of around £16,200.
Italian Francesco Molinari won this weekend's tournament on 22 under par, finishing one shot ahead of Britain's Danny Willett who was one of seven competitors from this year's Ryder Cup team.
Dyson had finished level par for the first round, carding four birdies and four bogies along the way. He then hit five bogies in his second round and three birdies.
The Ryder Cup starts on September 30 in Minnesota. Westwood was the only member of the Ryder Cup team who missed the cut at the Italian Open.
