HUNTINGTON Rovers continued their run of good form, beating York RI 3-1 to retain their position at the summit of the York Minster Engineering premier division.

It took the league leaders no time at all to establish an advantage, with Chris Dyson firing home a first minute penalty following an early handball.

The visitors drew level with a well taken strike from Ben Jones before Dyson scored his second just before the interval. James Edmond scored early in the second period to increase the lead and the game petered out from there on without incident.

Wigginton Grasshoppers travelled to Malton & Norton and, with both sides boasting 100 per cent records, something had to give.

A fast-paced game saw chances at both ends but it was to be Grasshoppers who gained an advantage in the 33rd minute when Jamie Green teed up Matt Tiplady to fire them ahead from close range.

The home side came back out with conviction in the second half but despite significant early pressure, couldn’t force an opening.

Instead, it was to be Wiggy who once again found the net, with Jamie Willstrop forcing the keeper to commit before sliding the ball past him and into the net.

A minute later, the game was pretty much over when Josh Luckhurst fired ‘Hoppers third before Willstrop made it 4-0 five minutes from time.

Sporting Knavesmire maintained their perfect start, with a Danny Owers goal giving them a 1-0 victory over Tadcaster Magnets.

F1 Racing, who have been failing to turn chances into goals lately, had no such problems in their encounter with Brooklyn, scoring 14 without reply. Chris Dempsey led the way with six goals, with George Trifan (4), Alex Martin (3) and Jason McCloud also on target.

Wayne Brook struck for Riccall United as they suffered a 5-1 home defeat to reigning champions Old Malton St Marys.

In division one, Thorpe United got off to a flying start, defeating Heslington 4-1. Nathan Parker (3) and James Barrett weighed in with Thorpe’s goals.

Rawcliffe and Kirkbymoorside drew 3-3, with Paul Branscombe, Frazer Shields and Henry Wharton bagging for Rawcliffe. Poppleton United defeated Pocklington Town 2-0.

One of the the opening matches of the division three season went the way of Selby Olympia, who edged a seven-goal thriller at Jorvik Blades. Stu Harris, Casey Want and Joe Cox were on target for the home side.

Malt Shovel top the first division four table after a 5-1 success at Pollington, for whom Stuart Harrison scored a consolation goal.

St Clements led LNER 1-0 at half-time through a Jack Bucket goal, and cruised to a 4-0 win with further strikes from Declan Horncastle (2) and Bobby Clapham.

Martyn Fielden was on target for Wheldrake in their 1-1 draw with Swinton, while the same result occurred in the game between Wetherby and Huntington FC.

Henry Newitt's goal wasn't enough to earn AFC Crayke any points as they fell 2-1 to Bramham.

Wigginton Grasshoppers fell 6-3 at home to Copmanthorpe in the first game in Reserve A. Oli Baron led the way with four goals for Cop and was supported by a Mark Featherstone brace.

Wiggy's replies came from Steve Jarvis and Danny Franks (2) before they had two men sent off in the second period.

Jimmy Drury put Pocklington ahead from the penalty spot in their Reserve B clash with F1 Racing but Ben Orange levelled after half-time.

Dan Croft and John Parsons restored the home side's lead before Solly Tomlin-Kent made it 3-2 late in the game.

Neil Fryirs (2), Mark Benton and Chris Bullen struck for Harrison Signs as they defeated Osbaldwick 4-3.

Dan Litherland, Ross Neale and John Cavanagh struck for Stamford Bridge as they outpointed Brooklyn 3-1, and Bishopthorpe defeated Heslington 3-2. Tockwith recorded a 6-1 triumph over visitors Riccall United.

Christopher Power and Daniel Gibson both bagged braces for Wetherby Athletic in their 4-1 win at Fulford.
