SUREWECAN can gain sweet profits by returning to seven furlongs at Carlisle.

The reliable four-year-old gelding, trained by Mark Johnston, has had a busy enough year but there are still races to be won with him.

Surewecan can therefore hammer home the point by claiming the ApolloBet Cashback If 2nd Handicap.

The son of Royal Applause had a bit of a nightmare last year but he has been revived this term, having rarely finished out of the money in 15 starts.

His last run over a mile at Carlisle was also interesting as he did pretty well to overcome a sloppy start and was actually bang in contention inside the final furlong.

But once the tank began to trickle dry, Surewecan could not match the finishing burst of Hidden Rebel and came home third, beaten just under four lengths.

Having won two races over seven furlongs this year, including over this course and distance, it hardly comes as a huge surprise to see him back in more familiar territory at the Cumbria circuit.

Rated just 2lb higher than when he struck at Carlisle in May, nap selection Surewecan is a fan of fast ground and is highly likely to be among the thick of it once again with Franny Norton on board.

AL SHAHANIYA is earmarked for success in the Oilfield Offshore Underwriting Handicap on the Lingfield turf.

The John Quinn-trained filly, owned by Al Shaqab Racing, turned in a nice display at Brighton a week and a half ago when she finished a short-head second to Jawaayiz, to whom she was giving weight.

That was Al Shahaniya's first try over a mile and a quarter and it clearly added a new dimension to her game.

This looks a hot enough race but the three-times winning daughter of Zoffany is quietly progressive and deserves to be supported in the hands of Frankie Dettori.

POINT OF WOODS might just have a little more to bring to the table than his rivals at Bath.

Ralph Beckett's three-year-old has largely struggled this year but there was a hint of promise from him at Salisbury on August 10 and that should be taken into account for the Markel Handicap.

The gelded son of Showcasing only finished fifth in a five-furlong handicap but he raced with a shade more intent than on recent runs and is now looking a particularly well-handicapped horse.
