YORK City manager Jackie McNamara wants to turn the screw on former Bootham Crescent boss Gary Mills at Wrexham this afternoon.
The Minstermen climbed above their Welsh hosts with McNamara enjoying a 4-1 triumph over Woking after watching Mills’ team go down 3-0 to Dagenham & Redbridge live on television at the weekend.
The results mean City and Wrexham sit 14th and 15th respectively in the early National League standings with McNamara wanting to unsettle an expectant Racecourse Ground crowd.
He said: “If we put in a similar performance to the Woking one, we will have a good chance of getting three points. Wrexham were 3-0 down at half-time against Dagenham and changed their shape, so they will be hurting and might be under a bit of pressure to put things right at home.
“If we start with a real intensity and frustrate them by keeping the ball, the fans might turn on them a bit.”
City skipper Simon Heslop, meanwhile, will be available against his old club after serving a one-match suspension during the Woking match with McNamara adding: “Having Simon back is a good headache and it’s a different game as well, so the more players we’ve got available the better.”
