WIGGINTON continue to control the Batagas League after a near maximum, nine-point tally away to Slingsby (59-39).

The winning skips were Colin Ellis (16-8), John Freeman (18-11) and Bruce Dobson (15-10), with a drawn rink from Tony Baker (10-10).

They followed up, though, with a 77-63 home defeat to Malton, taking only three points from the winning rink of David Moorhouse (17-16) and a drawn rink from Dobson (18-18).

In the York Veterans League, there were mixed fortunes for Wigginton teams with Dave Imeson's B side drawing at home against bottom club Scarcroft A 16-16, while Moorhouse's E team enjoyed a comfortable win against Bishopthorpe A 24-12.

Tom Davies' D team went down 26-13 to Poppleton C.

In the Veterans Maddison Cup semi-finals, Ellis' A team defeated Dunnington B 17-11, while Moorhouse's E team lost 18-6 to Dunnington A.

The two A teams will now meet in the final at West Park on Thursday, July 28.

In the Huby Triples League, Wigginton succumbed 79-46 at home to league leaders Terrington, taking just four points from the winning rinks of Gary Stockton (17-12) and Jane Stockton (13-12) and then failed to get any points in a 71-51 defeat at Huby.

Wigginton B moved to the top of the Ryedale Veterans League's third division following a comfortable triumph at Hutton-Le-Hole, collecting a near-maximum nine points from three winning rinks of Moorhouse (22-12), Gary Stockton (22-15), Jane Stockton (16-10) and a drawn rink for Baker (13-13).

The A team were defeated 69-56 at home to Slingsby, with only three points to show from the winning rink of Imeson (17-12) and a drawn rink from Barrie Shipley (14-14).

Wigginton A could also only muster two points from the winning rink of Ellis (21-14) in the Private Club's match at Dunnington B that finished 47-39.

In the York Amateur Bowls Association League's first division just one game was played due to county competition commitments, with RI Corinthians condemning Dunnington to a 6-2 home defeat.

Shipton remain unbeaten at the top of division two after their nearest challengers played each other, with Rowntree 6.5-1.5 victors against Bootham.

At the wrong end of the table, Burnholme suffered a 6-2 beating by Osbaldwick, while West Park went down 7-1 at home to Clifton.

Osbaldwick went on to suffer a 7-1 home reverse against Hull Road Park.

In division three, Harrogate and Copmanthorpe stayed in the promotion hunt thanks to resounding victories.

Harrogate triumphed 7-1 at fellow high-fliers Poppleton, while Copmanthorpe were comfortable 8-0 home winners over Minster.

The same scoreline saw Stamford Bridge overcome Retreat.

In the Williamson Cup quarter finals, Minster went down 87-66 at Copmanthorpe, while both Railway Institute teams were knocked out by Holgate rivals.

RI Amateurs were edged out 70-68 by Holgate and RI Corinthians succumbed 88-68 to Holgate WMC.

An 88-63 success at Haxby Road saw Selby join them in the last four.

In the Freedom and Fellowship Cup, Dunnington beat West Park 107-60 to reach the quarter finals, where they will play Rowntree.

Poppleton, meanwhile, made it through to the last four, courtesy of an 84-64 home win over Harrogate and are joined by Dringhouses, who saw off Scarcroft 77-66.
