NICK TURNBULL and Nikki Rohlfing showed their class in Tyke Petroleum Men’s Tennis League division one, dropping just three games to take Poppleton to victory over leading Harrogate team Academy.

Rowntree Park stayed top after a big win over Starbeck, Steve Lecornu seamlessly substituting for their absent captain to take 2½-26 with Nils Morozs.

A depleted Wigginton 2 pulled off an unlikely comeback at division two leaders Bubwith.

Trailing 39-33, visiting captain Chris Burnham and Matt Waudby scored a final round 11-1 as their team claimed the match 57-51.

Strugglers Poppleton 2 held Dunnington to a draw in a see-saw match, but made off with an extra point thanks to Paul Turnbull and Alan Powell’s unbeaten 2½-20.

Copmanthorpe took advantage, going second after scalping Sutton-on-Derwent 1 in their first match on their own grass courts. Jack Wood and Luke Blackburn had a field day with 3-25 for Cop.

It was all change too in division three.

David Lloyd 2 now top it, after beating Heworth, who were without regular hotshots Nick Latcham and Ollie Hicks.

Boston Spa narrowly defeated favourites Rowntree Park 2 - the visitors stormed back with a 3-23 final round, but lost 55-53 - while York 2 edged the rubbers to beat previous leaders Appleton Roebuck 9½-2½.

It went York 3’s way too in division four, by a single point, after an Appleton Roebuck 2 player had to duck the final round.

Another 30-game haul from Rowan Brookes and Carlos Gabaldon, this time at Fulford 2, helped Starbeck 3 to joint-top spot with York 3.

A see-saw game against Racquets 2 went Copmanthorpe 2’s way, due to Mark Dadvar and Rob Abbott's 3-26.

Mick Miller and James Parker were on song with 3-23 in Bishopthorpe's good result against Poppleton 3.

Starbeck 2 began with 22 games from the first round but barely won that many in the rest of their derby at home to division five front-runners Wetherby 1.

Captain Roger Fawcus and James Landau led the comeback with 3-28 for the visitors.

Tim and James Hunt likewise bagged 3-28 in Wilberfoss' win at Wetherby 2, while Andy Ivel and Andy Goodchild were the day’s joint top scorers with 3-33 for Rufforth at Sheriff Hutton.

After a caning at local rivals Academy 2, Harlow 2nds now top division six by only half a point. Spearheading the threat below are Cawood, who saw off Boston Spa 2 without losing a rubber,

Chris Abbott and Graham Bond claiming 3-29.

With three scoring pairs, Pocklington edged a keen contest at Heworth 2 to record their first win at this level since May 2013.

Riccall continue as the league’s highest points scorers after beating Sutton-on-Derwent 2 9-3 in division seven. There was no stopping Alex Trembath and George Lintott with 3-26.
