HUNTINGTON Rovers edged closer to the York Minster Engineering League reserve A title with a 9-1 defeat of Church Fenton White Horse.

Ashley Hill led the way with four goals and was backed up by Lee Bunce who hit a treble.

Pete Laidlaw also made the scoresheet but Rovers’ best was saved until last as Tommy Hair came off the bench to hit a 25-yard screamer to put the icing on the cake.

Thorpe United moved into second place ahead of Dunnington after a 4-1 triumph at Wigginton Grasshoppers, for whom Tom Coates scored a penalty.

Tadcaster Magnets moved up to fifth with a 2-1 home win over Riccall United.

Reserve B leaders Malton and Norton all but secured the title after surviving a small scare at Stamford Bridge.

Will Wood gave the home side an early lead but the Ryedale side recovered their composure to move into a 3-1 half-time lead thanks to goals from Tom Garbutt, Rob Haigh and Kingsley Daffern.

Malton and Norton moved further ahead when Daffern completed his brace, and secured a 5-1 victory when Adam Cook was brought down and stepped up to slot away the resultant penalty.

Mark Burton and Edmund Houldridge were on target for Heslington but they suffered a 4-2 home defeat to second placed Pocklington Town.
